Canadian Rockies Hiking guide Jane Whitney recounts some experiences from some recent hiking trips in the Rockies:
Canadian Rockies Hiking Tour July 14-19, 2012
“You can’t beat the magnificent mountain scenery of the Canadian Rockies coupled with fields of wildflowers in all colours. Even watching a female grizzly ripping out glacier lillies while her 2 cubs sat and watched the clouds move by.”
One of our guests on this trip reported “I loved Jane! She was the best guide I’ve ever had and is one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met. She went out of her way to equip us and to educate us on the flora, fauna, history, and culture of the area. I’m really glad to have met her.”
Private Hiking trip July 20-21, 2012
‘We sat down for lunch in a field of heather next to a babbling creek. The mountain scenery couldn’t have been prettier. We had just seen a grzzly and wondered if it was returning, for all of the ground squirrels and marmots were calling at high alert. David asked ‘Is that a bobcat?’ I looked at him and he described a cat’s face peering out around a rock 4 metres from us, locking eyes with him, then quietly backing up, instantly out of sight. We found him up the hillside and later alongside the far shore of the lake, still hunting, it’s big paws quietly padding across the heather.’
