Associate Director and Mountain Guide David Begg shares his experiences on the Wapta Ice Hike from this past weekend:
“The Wapta Ice Hike is a unique hiking trip that goes from hut to hut across the Wapta Icefields just north of Lake Louise. It’s a great trip for hikers who’d like to experience some beginner mountaineering in stunning surroundings.
I’ve never seen so much snow on the glacier at this time of year. It means that the crevasses are well covered and travel over the snow is very easy. I anticipate great conditions for the rest of the summer. In addition the Alpine Club has renovated both Bow and Peyto Huts which are very comfortable and clean.
Our guests, Dinah who’s from Ontario and Vincent from here in Canmore did really well and enjoyed the adventure we had. The pictures I’ve included tell the story!”
