Avalanche Season has started – are you ready?

We completed our first Avalanche Skills Training 1 (AST 1) course at our office in Canmore this weekend. Our first class of the season got to see the newly renovated classroom and of course were treated with the usual blend of hospitality for anyone who visits our office. The group did the classroom day on Saturday then braved the elements on Sunday at Bow Summit for the field day.

Senior Guide and avalanche training expert Steve Blagbrough was impressed with the keen group who braved -22 degree temps for the field training day. The snowpack was surprisingly good for instruction but of course we have offered our November avalanche course students an additional field day to ensure they get the best field training possible. There was some ‘whumping’ with the settling of the recent snow and the November rain crust was evident so it’s safe to say we are well into the avalanche season.

Thanks to everyone for choosing us for your avalanche course training and for being responsible in getting educated.
