COVID-19- Alberta Relaunch Update – April 7, 2021

Effective April 7, 2021, the Alberta government updated their mandatory COVID-19 restrictions and moved back to Step 1 of the Alberta Relaunch Plan. Such measures are in effect until further notice.

For businesses in the Outdoor Sport and Recreation Activities category, such as Yamnuska Mountain Adventures, there are no changes. Yamnuska operated throughout the previous Step 1 restrictions with the policies and protocols outlined on December 9, 2020. We will, at this time, continue to operate within these same guidelines (apart from the overnight clause).

One Year Ago:

On March 22, 2020, Yamnuska closed its doors for what was initially intended to be a 4-week shutdown. We reopened to guests almost two months later, on May 19th. Wilderness first aid courses were the first to be re-instated. With revised protocols and procedures in place to minimize the risk of COVID-19, we also returned to guiding and offering instructional programs in June. Most of our regular programs ran throughout last summer and this past winter, some with modifications to allow for the restrictions. Guests reported great learning opportunities and depth of experiences which we are well known for delivering. Because guests adhered to both provincial and company health measures, we were able to continue operating. The entire Yamnuska crew is truly appreciative of everyone’s efforts and trust in us over the past year.

We are fortunate to have nature, and the mountains, at our doorstep. Not only are we able to continue running our programs, but, perhaps more importantly, provide an outlet for our guests and staff. Every time we climb that next mountain, discover that next trail or watch the sunrise over the ridge, some of that heavy feeling lifts away. We are happy to have shared our knowledge and experience with so many others and to allow them the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the outdoors as safely as possible.

What is Coming Next?

Despite the recent setback, the future does show signs of recovery. Vaccination numbers continue to climb, and we are hopeful for a decrease in COVID-19 numbers this summer. Inherent in Yamnuska’s mountain adventures are innumerable benefits; our programs run with small groups, we access remote locations and promote healthy living and activities.

Will travel return to what it once was? It is likely that we see lasting changes to the tourism industry, but we are resilient and have evolved our programs to the current norm. Having been around since 1977, Yamnuska has what it takes to provide adventurers with the freedom to discover and experience the mountains and nature again. Our commitment to providing exceptional mountain experiences has remained unchanged.

One thing is for certain, the mountains are not going anywhere. For those close by, we look forward to spending time together this spring and summer in some of our favourite places. When the time is right, we are looking forward to seeing our guests from further afield.
